This involves commenting on applications made to Council for land-use rezoning and for departures from zoning regulations as well as participating in Environmental Impact Assessments when required. We also comment on broader issues such as legislation and policy that pertains to the planning and environmental work that we do.

Wetlands, Dune System and Beach

Hout Bay is richly endowed with natural assets such as the mountains, river, wetlands and beach. However at present there are little if any attempts to enhance these assets and make them more accessible to the broader community. Alarmingly all of these ecological gems that give Hout Bay its unique sense of place and attract both local and international tourists are under threat of development. A major thrust of this portfolio is to actively try and prevent the piecemeal destruction of Hout Bay's natural heritage and when successful to then conserve and where necessary rehabilitate these ecological gems for all Hout Bay residents to enjoy in perpetuity.
