PROPOSED DEVELOPMENTS

Suikerbossie Restaurant (off Victoria Road between Hout Bay and Llandudno) is situated on a rural erf (1438) outside the Urban Edge and has a spot commercial zoning to accommodate the existing restaurant.  The proponent (Dormell Properties 265) intends to apply to rezone the rural portion to either Commercial or General Residential.  The proposal is for a restaurant and an accommodation component of 40 units.  CCA Enviromental Ltd consultant, Albert de Jong has instigated an EIA process and a Background Information Document (BID) is available from him at 461-1118/9 (fax –1120) or P.O. Box 10145, Caledon Square, 7905 or email  albert@cca environmental.co.za.  Interested and affected parties (IAPs) may register with him so as to be kept informed about the process.  A Public Meeting was held on Wed 29 September at the Library and two of our committee members attended.  At the meeting three similar proposals were presented all of which would change forever that special place we all know so well.  We have submitted our preliminary comments.  This is only the beginning of the process and the public will have further chance to comment or object to the proposals.  The Association feels very strongly that the Urban Edge should not be compromised and what is already there (the  restaurant) is all that should be there.

Erf 1120  Beach Crescent

We have received an application for a development on Beach Crescent for 24 self-catering units in a three story building.  It would also have a restaurant on the ground floor.  The proponent is asking for a rezoning to Commercial with building line departures.  Deadline for comment was Friday 15th October.

MEETINGS

Imizamo Yethu:  Portion 8A of erf 2834 –  There is to be another public meeting about this land at which Simon Nicks from Chittenden and Nicks De Villiers (the consultancy firm dealing with Imizamo Yethu) will again go through  the proposals for this area and will do a presentation and response on the objections and comments of previous applications. There will also be time for all your questions.  As there was a very poor turn out from the Valley residents at the last meeting, we urge all residents to try and come to this meeting in order to find out what is proposed for Imizamo Yethu.  The meeting will be on Wednesday 20th October at 18.30 in the Library Hall.

Heritage Map of Hout Bay:  Two or three years ago the Council initiated a Heritage Mapping project for Hout Bay that was later shelved due to lack of funds.  The Hout Bay and Llandudno Heritage Trust have now started a process to resuscitate this project especially as most of the research has already been completed.  A public meeting was held on the 7th October in the library hall to explain the project in full and to initiate a process of public input to complete the research work..  The project was presented by Lorraine Gerrans of the City Council and it was a very fascinating presentation indeed as GIS technology is being used to capture all the data that the original research consultant collated.  If you are interested in this project or think you might have knowledge of sites of heritage value in Hout Bay please phone Dave Cowley 7902008.  This heritage mapping will be a very important tool in the future to limit inappropriate development in Hout Bay.

Chapman’s Peak Drive

We have heard that a unilateral decision has been taken by the Concessionaire to withdraw the R20 concession card for 4 trips across the mountain, HB – Noordhoek at the end of the current month. Petition forms are in the library for the public to protest. This Association will strongly protest this action and withdrawal of the card.
